What is Spiritual Meditation? Its Role in Spiritual Growth

Spiritual meditation involves using meditation techniques in quieting of the mind and focusing it inward to obtain spiritual experiences. They have been employed for generations across the world in most religions as a means of achieving spiritual advancement, individual development, and liberation. It creates a feeling of tranquility, completeness, and balance.

The contemplative practices of meditation enable us to gradually draw upon and embody spiritual qualities inherent within us. These qualities include humility, love, forgiveness, and strength. This process brings forth positive and significant changes within ourselves and the world we live in.

Spiritual meditation is a type of meditation that aims at calming the active, noisy, or chaotic thoughts in the mind to get in touch with the spiritual self. There are common methods such as breathing exercises or chanting mantras. This is to overcome the noise of the discursive or the everyday thinking process and go deeper into the calmness and stillness of the mind.

This enables one to touch the inner self, the soul, the spirit, or the god within as people of different cultures perceive it. It is a way of exercising the spirit like any other muscle. It has the benefit of helping to lessen tension, stress, and anxiety.

It can be seen that spiritual meditation is a critical part of the process of attaining spiritual development as time goes on. Practicing walking meditation or sitting meditation each day also assists in calming the ego. It helps us wake up and enlighten ourselves, to see beyond what we were taught and programmed to think.

It makes us see the hidden secrets of the universe, the purpose of life, and our place in it. The more we get used to this state of being, the more we become awakened from illusion. We tend to free the mind from the imaginary, get closer to the divine self, and live a more spiritual life.

In general terms, spiritual meditation refers to the process of transcending discursive thinking and thinking beyond the thinking. Some key aspects of spiritual meditation include:

Spiritual meditation most commonly entails directing one’s attention to something and making an effort to keep it concentrated, for instance, on the breathing or the use of a word, sign, or picture, or sensing the presence by paying attention to various areas of the body. This helps to give a sense of balance and stability to the mind and to focus and bring its focus to a single point.

One of the goals of spiritual meditation is to overcome our limited and ego-centered way of perceiving ourselves and our world and to move to the level where we are free from stories, concepts, judgments, etc.

This makes it possible for the person to expand his/her consciousness and experience reality beyond the limitations of his/her conditioning.

The two types of meditation encourage a relational mode of perceiving and ending up in ultimate forms of communion with either the sacred or divine. This divine can be interpreted as spiritual self, core self, essence or soul, consciousness, or God according to one’s preconceptions of spirituality.

Meditation saves the time in which we become conscious at a higher level or be mindful in a way. Where we can perceive things objectively as they are without prejudices of thoughts, feelings, and ideas. This leads to significant spiritual realizations, and the knowledge of our divine nature, at least in religious contexts.

Religious meditation is an essential component and a key ingredient in spiritual transformation. Some of the key ways it facilitates spirituality include:

Futherly, with a 2019 research point of view spirtual meditation deeps cnnectivity with the divine in multiple ways. This results in an intense awareness of the oneness of the created order. Further, it contributes to the ordering of the human will to the divine will.

Meditation helps to prevent the activities of thoughts and feelings that are destructive. This inner stillness fosters crucial dissolution, where maladaptive modes of thinking. And affect are released, so the mind and the heart become available to spiritual currents.

Mindful Meditation requires a strong desire to stay focused and a complete focus of the mind toward the object of meditation. The concentrative ability that results from such practice extends to the building of this aspect of our life to achieve mastery.

Meditation is an effective tool to transform self-interest into self-transcendence and the real motivation to focus on the truth, to serve others, and to be connected to the whole world. In other words, it elevates our visceralness and increases our spirituality as regards our goals and lifestyle.

For me, the mental calm and inner insight that is gifted to us by meditation places us right on the express lane of self-enhancement and rapidly increases our psycho-spiritual evolution.

Prayer/meditation leads to the arousal of the higher intelligent and innovative capacities of the upper self. As a result, we have a wonderful opportunity to obtain information and inspiration from the regions. Beyond the conscious mind and therefore to encourage free and creative thinking and global vision.

To sum up, spiritual meditation teaches a person to go beyond ordinary consciousness. Ordinary consciousness is full of distracting thoughts, emotions, and a weak ego-centric self-identity. Through meditation, one can reach the deeper layer of the self, experiencing silence, tranquillity, realization, and oneness with the essence of existence.

This transforms the ego into a vehicle of divinity. It enhances higher spiritual consciousness in our daily lives, as shown by the philosophies of detachment, compassion, and the sanctity of work. Therefore, spiritual meditation provides a strong foundation for authentic spirituality.
